"Nowhere can one find a quieter more untroubled retreat than within ones own soul". Retreat is where we learn to be, just be. Where we can find rest, re-connect to our inner landscape and let our soul shine. Our intention is to walk, swim and practice the mindfulness of yoga in this wilder corner of the UK, whilst being lovingly hosted by our dear friends and yogis, Hannah and BJ, who run a Victorian lakeland property in Keswick.
I offer a yoga programme to take participants deeper in their asana, pranayama (breath work) and meditation. Ideal for those of you who are curious about delving deeper into your yoga practice, these immersions are not suitable for the complete beginner. My background in Sivananda, Iyengar and Ashtanga yoga has cultivated a style that is flowing, clear and relaxing. As a lover of words and a teller of tales, my teaching is enriched with yoga philosophy, poetry and myths. Three nights allows for a real opportunity to unwind, recharge and build some solid foundations to your understanding of yoga. The spacious and warm yoga room has under-floor heating and a log-burning stove. it is fully equipped with mats, bolsters, blocks and belts.
A precious part of any yoga retreat is to get the space and time to concentrate on aspects of yoga that can get overlooked in our conventional weekly classes. I offer opportunities for silence, stillness, meditation, chanting and pranayama as well as diving deeper into our asana to provide inspiration, clarity and breakthrough opportunities.I am a keeper of words and a lover of stories, philosophy and poetry. My yoga offers clarity, suggests precision, cultivates strength whilst suggesting softness. Mornings will be dynamic and flowing and evenings restorative. I am a senior yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance, I am a teacher of teachers and my quest is for sensitivity and greater awareness.
We will stay in a lovely Victorian lakeland home. The five bedrooms offer everything you need for a comfortable stay, each with an ensuite bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities, and a comfy seating area where you can relax and read.
We will serve a delicious, freshly prepared vegetarian breakfast after yoga each morning, and a 3-course vegetarian dinner each evening. Teas, coffee, biscuits and fruit will be freely available throughout the day. We aim to provide a healthy, balanced and varied diet. We can provide gluten or lactose free options, and cater for allergies; please let us know in advance if you have any dietary requirements.
Getting to the the Lake District by public transport is the kindest way for the environment. You could for example get the train to Penrith and then a bus to Keswick - these run every hour. For cyclists it’s a two hour ride from the train station at Penrith to the B&B. We have every intention of taking our bikes. There is parking for those who will need to travel by car.
